In loving memory—Sr Loyce Gordon

Home > Part four: Our people > In loving memory—Sr Loyce Gordon

Sr Loyce Gordon (previously known as Sr Mary Conrad) arrived at Mater in 1937 and was apprenticed to Sister Mercia M. Higgins in the Mater Pharmacy at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

After qualifying as a pharmacist in 1941, she was transferred to the Pharmacy within Mater Adult Hospital (now Mater Hospital Brisbane) where she was in charge during the difficult war years.

In 1946, Sr Loyce transferred to Mater Pathology at the request of Sr Mercia Mary, who needed help conducting biochemical tests. She remained in the Biochemistry Department until her retirement in 1985, but always maintained her interest in pharmacy. She was a member of the Australian Institute of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and assisted in training staff at Mater.

After her retirement, Sr Loyce remained at the Mater Convent for many years. Sr Loyce passed away on 20 October 2015.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
